Facts
Mr J Grantkz, an unrepresented claimant, brought two consolidated claims against Zzoomm Plc, a telecommunications company. The claims alleged multiple forms of discrimination on the grounds of race and disability, including direct discrimination, harassment, discrimination arising from disability, indirect discrimination, failure to make reasonable adjustments, and victimisation. The case was heard over 15 days before a full tribunal panel.
Decision
The tribunal unanimously dismissed all of the claimant's claims. The tribunal found that the respondent had not contravened the Equality Act 2010 in any respect, neither under Section 39 (discrimination by employers) nor Section 40 (harassment). All claims of race and disability discrimination, including harassment and victimisation, failed.
Practical note
This case demonstrates the challenges faced by unrepresented claimants in complex discrimination cases lasting multiple weeks, where the tribunal ultimately found no merit in any of eight separate claims brought under the Equality Act 2010.
